Why Sunshine Coast Cars Need Paint Correction

The Sunshine Coast is rough on paint. Salt air off the coast, harsh UV, dust from inland roads, and tree sap from the hinterland all break down your clear coat over time. What looks like dull or scratched paint is usually a layer of micro-damage sitting in the clear coat itself. That damage will not wash off.

Paint correction physically removes that damaged layer using a machine polisher and cutting compounds. The result is restored gloss, clarity, and depth. It is also the required step before applying any ceramic coating. Skipping it and coating over damaged paint locks those defects in permanently.

If you are planning to sell, a corrected finish adds real money to your resale value. If you are keeping it, correction followed by a protective coating is the most effective way to maintain your paint and stop the damage progressing. Noah and the team work across Buderim, Maroochydore, Noosa, Caloundra, and everywhere in between.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontamination

The vehicle is washed using a two-bucket method to avoid adding new scratches during the wash. Iron fallout remover and clay bar treatment follow to pull out embedded brake dust, tar, and road grime sitting below the surface. Paint correction cannot be done effectively over contaminated paint.

1 to 1.5 hours
2

Paint Thickness and Defect Assessment

A paint depth gauge is used across every panel to measure clear coat thickness before any polishing begins. This tells Noah exactly how much material can safely be removed and which panels carry the most damage. Defects are also assessed under high-intensity lighting to map out the work required.

20 to 30 mins
3

Machine Polishing

Correction is carried out panel by panel using a dual-action or rotary polisher with the appropriate compound and pad combination for each area. Heavier defects get a cutting stage first, followed by a finer polish to refine the surface. Work is checked under lighting constantly throughout.

3 to 8 hours depending on tier and vehicle size
4

Lighting Inspection and Touch-Up

Once polishing is complete, the whole vehicle is inspected under high-intensity lighting from multiple angles. Any remaining defects are addressed before moving forward. Panel wipe removes all polish residue so the true finish can be evaluated clearly.

30 to 60 mins
5

Protection Application or Handover Prep

If a ceramic coating or paint protection film is being applied, the paint is now in the correct condition to receive it. If correction only was booked, a finishing wax or sealant is applied to protect the freshly worked surface and add depth. Noah walks you through the result and aftercare before handover.

Paint Correction FAQ

Coastline Ceramic and Detail offers three tiers: Single Stage, Two Stage, and Multi-Stage. Pricing is based on vehicle size, paint condition, and the level of correction required. No two vehicles are the same so Noah assesses each job individually before quoting. Get in touch for a free quote with no obligation.
A single stage correction on a mid-size vehicle typically takes four to six hours. A two-stage correction runs six to eight hours. A full multi-stage correction, particularly on larger vehicles or heavily damaged paint, can take one to two full days. The time is driven by doing the job properly, not rushing through it.
The correction itself is permanent within the clear coat. Swirl marks and scratches that have been polished away do not come back on their own. What matters is what you do after. Without protection applied on top, regular washing and the elements will introduce new defects over time. Most clients follow correction with a ceramic coating to protect the finish long-term.
Yes. The most important change is how you wash it. Automatic car washes and dry wiping are the two main causes of swirl marks. Hand washing with a quality wash mitt, two-bucket method, or a contactless wash is the way to go. If a ceramic coating has been applied, specific coating-safe products are recommended. Noah covers all of this at handover.
The correction work itself is guaranteed. If you identify any areas that do not meet the agreed standard when you collect the vehicle, they are rectified before you leave. Warranty on the correction does not cover new defects introduced after handover through washing, stone chips, or general use. If a ceramic coating is added, that product carries its own separate warranty.
A detail or express polish at a car wash uses an all-in-one product that fills scratches temporarily with fillers. The defects come back after a few washes. Paint correction physically removes the damaged layer of clear coat using abrasive compounds and a machine polisher. The result is a permanent improvement to the surface, not a cover-up. The two processes are not comparable.
It removes defects that sit within the clear coat layer. Swirl marks, buffer trails, light scratches, water spot etching, and oxidation respond well to correction. Scratches that go through the clear coat and into the base coat or primer cannot be polished out. These require touch-up paint or panel respray. Noah will identify any through-to-paint damage during the assessment and be straight with you about what correction can and cannot fix.
Yes, always. Ceramic coatings lock in whatever condition the paint is in when they are applied. Coating over swirl marks and scratches means those defects are sealed under the coating permanently. Correction first gives the coating a clean surface to bond to, and the finished result looks significantly better. Most Coastline Ceramic and Detail clients book both together.
